Asterisk Mark Report – Charlotte Roval 2022
Chase Elliott – Last year at the Charlotte Roval, Chase Elliott was the class of the field, but late chaos cost him what looked like certain victory. In overtime, Elliott got shuffled out of the lead and then spun twice in the closing laps which led to his 20th.
Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell had a good car last year at the Charlotte Roval and looked poised to finish 6th (was there on lap 103) but he was a late mayhem victim and was spun on lap 106 shortly after a restart which led to his 27th.
Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell didn’t have the best car last year at the Charlotte Roval and raced his way to victory lane but that’s an asterisk mark result. In the race, Bell was poised to finish in 7th until late chaos ensued in which he got fresh tires and then raced his way to the front.
Ross Chastain – Last year at the Charlotte Roval, Ross Chastain never raced hard and wasn’t good but he also wasn’t 37th place bad. In the race, Chastain won Stage #2, was in 27th on lap 77 but then shortly after that on lap 84 he got into a wall which knocked out his rear alignment which sent him to the garage for repair, dooming him to his poor finish. In the two segments prior to his problem, Chastain had speed rankings of 16th and 15th.
