Las Vegas Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Ty Gibbs
Las Vegas Fantasy Spin – At Las Vegas, I would view Ty Gibbs as about a 10th to 15th place driver. Gibbs has shown up with speed quite frequently at high-speed 1.5’s, but he ends up walking away with asterisk mark results in many of those races, such as Kansas #1 and Texas. I view Kansas to be the sister track and just a few weeks ago at that venue, Gibbs finished 14th.
Las Vegas Track History – Ty Gibbs has been consistent at Texas and he’s 2 for 2 at finishing 22nd. This spring en route to a 22nd, Gibbs had a 24th place average running position and the 20th best Total Speed Ranking. Last fall at Las Vegas, Ty Gibbs had a forgettable afternoon in the #23 and finished 22nd. In the race, Gibbs had a 21.7 average running position, the 21st best Total Speed Ranking and the 22nd best Green Flag Speed. Last year in the lower series at Las Vegas, Gibbs finished 4th in the fall and in the spring, he raced his way to victory lane.
Erik Jones
Las Vegas Fantasy Spin – Erik Jones will be a great sleeper pick at Las Vegas. The # 43 team has found speed at high-speed 1.5-mile tracks and at the two visited in the Playoffs, Jones finished 3rd at Kansas and looked poised to finish 2nd at Texas before late cautions/mayhem ensued. Fantasy Racing is about “What have you done lately”, so those recent results would be the key thing I would focus on heading into the weekend.
Las Vegas Track History – At Las Vegas, Erik Jones has finished in the top ten in 3 of the last 6 races. This spring when the #43 team wasn’t nearly as competitive as they are now, Jones finished 19th, had a 14.7 average running position and had the 17th best Total Speed Ranking. I’ll note, Jones was running in 19th before the late caution, so no asterisk marks needed. Last fall, Jones started way back in 22nd, had a 14.1 average running position but raced his way up to an 8th place finish. Closing out the race, the #43 was at its best and over the final quarter of the race, they ranked as the 7th fastest car on the track. Over the final 40 laps, Jones essentially ran in the high single-digits. Last spring, Jones was poised to finish around 7th, and he was running in that position with 4 to go, but then the next lap he had a flat tire and spun which led to his asterisk mark 31st. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Jones ranked 14th, with his speed over the segments being 18th, 10th, 12th and 12th. In the three Las Vegas races prior to that, Jones had results of 26th, 10th and 8th.
Joey Logano
Las Vegas Fantasy Spin – Joey Logano is the defending fall winner at Las Vegas, but he’s hard to pick with confidence. This year at high-speed 1.5’s sometimes he shows up and other times he looks lost. For the season on this sub-track type, Logano has a pair of top 6’s (both at Kansas the sister track) but then over the other three races he’s finished 21st or worse. In terms of Total Speed Rankings at high-speed 1.5’s this year, Logano ranks 19th.
Las Vegas Track History – Las Vegas has historically been a good track for Logano. He’s the defending fall champ and he’s raced his way to victory lane three-times. I’ll note in recent races outside of his crash this spring and win last fall, his next four most recent results are between 9th to 14th. This spring, Logano started on the pole, led the opening 9 laps but then slowly faded back. On lap 142 while running in 14th, Logano was shown to have really scrubbed the wall. Then shortly after that early in the final Stage on lap 183 while running in 15th, Logano got into the wall hard and slid into the grass which marked the end of his race leading to his 36th. Last fall, Logano passed Ross Chastain late for the lead and raced his way to victory lane. In the race, Logano finished 2nd in Stage #1, 2nd in Stage #2, had a 3.9 average running position, led 32 laps and earned the best driver rating. Last spring, Logano finished 14th, had a 10.7 average running position, ranked 9th for Speed Late In A Run and had the 10th best Total Speed Ranking. With 4 laps to go until the scheduled distance, Logano was running in 12th. In 2021, Logano had Las Vegas results of 9th and 11th.
