Homestead Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Alex Bowman
Homestead Fantasy Spin – At Homestead, look for Alex Bowman to be a top ten contender. Bowman’s run well here having finished 9th in 2 of the last 3 races, and then in the one other race he had problems in the last Stage while running in 9th. This year at high-speed intermediates and high-wear intermediates which both have correlation, Bowman’s been solid. Also, Bowman can be one of the best at running the high line when he applies himself, so there’s reason to have expectations this weekend.
Homestead Track History – At Homestead, Alex Bowman has finished 9th in 2 of his last 3 races. Last year, Bowman missed the race due to injury. In 2021 when he most recently raced here, Bowman finished 5th in Stage #1, 9th in Stage #2 and then finished 9th when the checkered flag waved. In 2020, Bowman was a top ten contender but finished 18th. In the race, Bowman finished 7th in Stage #1, 6th in Stage #2 but with 58 laps to go he made an unexpected pit stop that ruined his afternoon. Shortly before his problem he was running around 9th. In terms of Total Speed Rankings he ranked 9th in segment #1, 6th in segment #2 and 11th in segment #3. In the 4th segment he ranked 23rd after being forced to run for an extended period of time on old tires due to his unexpected pit stop. In 2019, Bowman finished 9th, earned the 13th best driver rating and had a 16th place average running position.
Ty Gibbs
Homestead Fantasy Spin – At Homestead, look for Ty Gibbs to likely be a mid-teens driver with upside, if he can avoid trouble which has been happening more frequently for him. I think that matches up with the current competitive state of the #54 team and the speed they’ve shown at intermediates in 2023.
Homestead Track History – Last year at Homestead in the #23 in a pre-rookie start, Gibbs finished 22nd, had a 21.3 average running position and had the 25th best Total Speed Ranking. Personally, I wouldn’t view that race as all too relevant for him. Last year in the Xfinity series, Gibbs finished 2nd.
Austin Dillon
Homestead Fantasy Spin – Austin Dillon is a great mid-tier dark horse at Homestead. Homestead has been a good venue for him and over the last seven races, Dillon’s average finish is 9.3, and he’s had a result in the top 12 every race. Auto Club is arguably the most similar track and Dillon had one of his better races in 2023 there and finished 9th. With how 2023 has transpired for Dillon, it’s hard to be too optimistic about him but on Sunday, I’ll view him as a top 15 performer who has marginal upside.
Homestead Track History – As you just read, Homestead has been a great track for Austin Dillon for an extended period of time. Over the last three races, Dillon has a 7.7 average finish. Last year, Dillon started way back in 32nd but raced his way to a 4th place finish. In the race, the #3 had a lot of speed and Dillon had the 9th best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 10th for Speed Late In A Run. In 2021, Dillon had a solid showing. In the race he finished 12th, had an 11.2 average running position and had the 8th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2020, Dillon had his best Homestead performance to date despite his race not being incident free. In the race he finished 8th in Stage #2, finished 7th overall and had the 9th best Total Speed Ranking. What makes his good finish standout a little more is during a caution around lap 175 while he was in 10th, he got a pit penalty. In the four races prior to that, Dillon had results of 8th, 11th, 11th and 12th.
