Asterisk Mark Report – Homestead (2022)
Tyler Reddick – Last year at Homestead, Tyler Reddick started the race strong but then fell off over the course of the afternoon and then crashed in the final Stage which led to his 35th. In the race, Reddick started 7th, ran as high as 2nd in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #1, had a slow pit stop during the Stage #1 caution which dropped him from 4th to outside the top ten, had another slow pit stop during green flag pit stops in Stage #2 that dropped him off the lead lap (was around the mid-teens prior to that) and then late in the race on lap 243 while running in the mid 20’s and struggling, Reddick crashed which was the last caution.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney finished 17th last year at Homestead, but you can get out an asterisk mark for that result. In the race, Blaney finished 9th in Stage #1, 4th in Stage #2 but then in the final Stage during green flag pit stops, he spun on an access road leaving pit road and brought out the caution. On lap 201 just prior to that, Blaney was running in 2nd.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott finished 14th last year at Homestead, but that’s an asterisk mark result. Elliott was a driver who was burned by the caution during the pit cycle on lap 210. In the race, Elliott finished 8th in Stage #1, 6th in Stage #2, had a 7.2 average running position and was running in 4th on lap 201 shortly before he was burned by the caution during the pit cycle.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano finished 18th last year, but that’s a misleading finish. Like others in this post, Logano was a driver burned by a caution during an extended green flag pit cycle in the last Stage. In the race, Logano finished 10th in Stage #1, 9th in Stage #2, had a 10.6 average running position and was running in 6th on lap 201 before he was burned by the caution during the pit cycle.
