Chase Elliott missed the race due to injury. Jordan Taylor drove the #9 in his place.
Michael McDowell started in the rear of the field.

COTA Race Notes
William Byron who started on the pole led the opening 5 laps (next 4 after the opening lap were under caution).
Notable: On the opening lap, Brad Keselowski was spun. He didn’t appear to get any notable damage.
Big: On lap 1, Jimmie Johnson and Ty Dillon both crashed. Neither completed a single lap and it marked the end of both of their races.

On lap 6 during the restart lap, Austin Cindric passed William Byron for the lead and then led the next two laps.
Notable: On lap 7, Chase Briscoe who was running in 17th spun. He didn’t appear to get any notable damage, but it dropped him to the back.
Notable: On lap 7 while running in 16th, Joey Logano was penalized for short cutting the esses.
Notable: On lap 8, Denny Hamlin and Corey LaJoie were both penalized for shot cutting the track. Both were in/around the 20’s.
On lap 8, Tyler Reddick passed Austin Cindric for the lead.

Notable: On lap 10, Michael McDowell was penalized for shot cutting the esses. McDowell was in the low 20’s at the time. McDowell started the race in the rear of the field.
Big: On lap 10, Bubba Wallace got into the back of Kyle Larson and spun the #5. Bubba Wallace had a lot of damage to the front of his car and his race was now over. It was speculated to be a brake problem for Wallace. Larson was in 9th and Wallace was in 11th. Later that lap, Larson was spun by Denny Hamlin when he was coming to pit road which brought out a caution.

On lap 14, race leader Tyler Reddick came into pit and about a third of the field followed him in. He was basically the only front runner who pitted at the time though.

Notable: On lap 24 it was mentioned that Corey LaJoie was dragging his defuser. LaJoie was then black flagged to come to pit road.
