Chase Briscoe
Richmond Fantasy Spin – Chase Briscoe is a strong shorter-flat track performer who you don’t want to overlook at Richmond. Richmond’s proven to be a solid track for him with him finishing in either 11th or 12th in 3 of the 4 races in the Next Gen, and he just recently finished 9th at Phoenix, so he clearly has upside this weekend. On Sunday, look for Briscoe to compete for a top ten.
Richmond Track History – At Richmond, make sure Chase Briscoe is on your radar. In the Next Gen, Briscoe has the 14th best Total Speed Ranking and in 3 of the 4 races he’s finished in either 11th or 12th. Despite 2023 being down year, Briscoe had a pair of low double-digit results at Richmond with his average finish being 11.5. Last summer in the heat, Briscoe had a solid showing and finished 11th. Last spring, Briscoe finished 12th, had a 13.5 average running position and had the 15th best Total Speed Ranking. In summer 2022, Briscoe finished 23rd but you can quickly get out an asterisk mark for that result. “Performance Wise”, Briscoe was a top five contender but on lap 308 he had a “Ford Random Fire” which led to an unexpected pit stop. That was during an extended green flag pit cycle, but position wise he was in 6th, minus the cars ahead of him who still needed to pit. In terms of speed analytics, Briscoe had the 9th best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 9th for speed late in a run. In spring 2022, Briscoe finished 11th.

Bubba Wallace
Richmond Fantasy Spin – If you’re looking for a sleeper pick at Richmond, don’t overlook Bubba Wallace. Wallace has never cracked the top ten here, but he was a top five contender last summer and performed better than his 12th, so he certainly presents upside. In fact, both 23XI cars were top five contenders last summer but had misleading results. Going back to last year over the last four races at shorter-flat tracks, Wallace has an 11.5 average finish.
Richmond Track History – At Richmond, Bubba Wallace has never cracked the top ten over his 11 races, but he was a top five contender last summer and in 2 of the last 3 races he’s finished in the top 13. Last summer in the most recent race, Bubba Wallace was really good, and his 12th place finish doesn’t do him any justice. In the race, Wallace started 5th, finished 2nd in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2, led 80 laps, had a 5th place average running position and was running in 9th on lap 385 when the last caution came out. To close out the race, Wallace just wasn’t at his best for whatever reason. Last spring, Bubba Wallace finished 22nd but you can get out an asterisk mark for that result. During green flag pit stops in the lap 290’s while running in 11th, Wallace got a safety violation pit penalty which dropped him off the lead lap back to 19th. For much of the race leading up to that, Wallace consistently ran around the low double-digits to mid-teens. Additionally, Wallace had the 13th best Total Speed Ranking and a 17.2 average running position, despite his penalty which impacted him for the last quarter of the race. In summer 2022, Wallace finished 13th and had the 15th best Total Speed Ranking. In spring 2022 before the #23 team started to run well, Wallace finished 26th.

Carson Hocevar
Richmond Fantasy Spin – At Richmond, Carson Hocevar might have a respectable performance in him. Hocevar has never competed at “The Action Track” against Cup competition, but he did finish 15th at Phoenix a few weeks ago and that track has correlation for Richmond. On Sunday, I think Hocevar realistically has mid to high-teens upside.
Richmond Track History – At Richmond in the Truck series, Hocevar has been strong. Last year, Hocevar led 64 laps and raced his way to victory lane and then in the two races prior to that he had results of 10th and 12th.
