Asterisk Mark Report – Richmond #2 2023
Tyler Reddick – Tyler Reddick is really the only driver who had a legitimate asterisk mark result last summer at Richmond. “Performance Wise”, Reddick was a top 3 performer, but he finished an asterisk mark 16th. In the race, Reddick started on the pole, led 81 laps, won Stage #1, finished 3rd in Stage #2 but then in the lap 330’s while running in 2nd, Reddick got a pit line violation for messing up on entrance to pit road which ruined his afternoon. Additionally, Reddick had the 3rd best Total Speed Ranking and a 4.3 average running position despite his problem.
Daniel Suarez – Daniel Suarez spun late last summer at Richmond but I can’t argue his 33rd is misleading. Right before he got spun out in the closing laps he was running in 28th so it’s not like it hurt him too much!
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson finished 19th last summer which looks misleading but it’s not. Larson just wasn’t competitive for whatever reason.
Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell finished 20th last summer at Richmond which looks misleading, but that result actually represents his performance.
William Byron – Just like the other big names mentioned in this post who finished poorly, William Byron’s 21st is legit and he simply didn’t run well.
Ross Chastain – Ross Chastain’s 24th also looks misleading but once again like many others in this post, it’s a legit finish.
