Asterisk Mark Report – Martinsville #2 2023
Ty Gibbs – Ty Gibbs was a top five contender last fall at Martinsville but he finished an asterisk mark 18th. In the race, Gibbs started 2nd, finished 7th in Stage #1, finished 6th in Stage #2 but then early in the final Stage on lap 274 while running in 3rd, Joey Logano spun him. Later, Carson Hocevar also spun him back in traffic.
Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski was a top five contender last fall at “The Paper Clip” but he finished a misleading 33rd. In the race, Keselowski finished 5th in Stage #1, 5th in Stage #2 but then early in the final Stage when he was back in the teens due to pit strategy, Joey Logano spun Ty Gibbs and Keselowski was collected in the carnage which doomed him to his poor result.
Alex Bowman – Former Martinsville winner, Alex Bowman finished an asterisk mark 32nd last fall. The #48 didn’t look good in the race, but he wasn’t quite 32nd place bad. On lap 105 while running in 24th and about to get lapped, Alex Bowman was spun by Austin Dillon which damaged the #48, dooming him to a poor finish.
