Asterisk Mark Report – Texas (2023)
Kyle Larson – Last fall at Texas, Kyle Larson was the class of the field but finished an asterisk mark 31st. In the race, Larson won Stage #2, led 99 laps, had the best Total Speed Ranking but during a late restart on lap 247 while battling for the lead he crashed.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch finished 34th last fall at Texas but you can get out an asterisk mark for that result. “Performance Wise”, Kyle Busch may have very well been a top five contender and by his own words in a post DNF interview he said he was. On lap 60, Busch was in 3rd but then he waved his hand out the window thinking he had a flat and then not much later, Busch backed the #8 into the wall which marked the end of his race.
Ryan Blaney – Last year, Blaney finished 28th but you can quickly get out an asterisk mark for that result. In the race, Blaney finished 7th in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2 but then in the last Stage he was caught speeding on pit road while running in 4th around lap 210 and then on lap 255 while he was around 20th he was collected in a “Big One” which doomed him to his 28th.
Ty Gibbs – Last fall at Texas, Ty Gibbs likely wasn’t anything special but he wasn’t 33rd place bad. Gibbs looked like a high-teens performer prior to his demise around lap 75 when he ran into Denny Hamlin on pit road which marked the end of his race.
