Talladega Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Chase Briscoe
Talladega Fantasy Spin – Chase Briscoe is a strong performer at Talladega who should be high on your radar, and he’s also proven to be a safe option. At Talladega over his six starts minus a spring 2022 crash, Briscoe has finished in the top 14 every race and has a 10.4 average finish. To kick start the season, Briscoe finished 10th in the Daytona 500.
Talladega Track History – At Talladega, Chase Briscoe has been solid and in 5 of his 6 races, he’s finished in the top 14. Last year at this “Wild Card Track”, Briscoe had a great season, having a 10.5 average finish between the combined races. Last fall en route to a 13th, Briscoe finished 8th in Stage #2 and earned the 15th best Driver Rating. Last spring, Briscoe had his best result of the 2023 season and finished 4th. I’ll note, at the start of overtime #1 he was back in 16th. In fall 2022, Briscoe finished 10th in Stage #2 and then finished 10th when the checkered flag waved. In spring 2022, it’s hard to say how good Briscoe was because he wrecked on lap 56 which led to his 37th. Just prior to his demise he was running around the mid-teens. In 2021, Briscoe finished 14th in the fall and then 11th in the spring.
Alex Bowman
Talladega Fantasy Spin – At Talladega, Alex Bowman has pretty much so been a “hero or zero.” Over the last twelve Talladega races, Bowman has 6 results in the top 14, but then in the other six he’s finished 28th or worse with no middle ground. In 2024 to kick off the season, Bowman finished runner-up in the Daytona 500. Last year at big superspeedways, Bowman finished in the top 13 in 3 of the 4 races and his average finish was 13th.
Talladega Track History – As you read above, Alex Bowman has been a “hero or zero” at Talladega for an extended period of time. Last fall, Bowman fell in the “Zero” range and finished 28th which I’m chalking up to him having a horrendous end to the race and getting shuffled out of line. In the race, Bowman finished 5th in Stage #1, led 13 laps, had a 13.6 average running position but just had a rapid fall at the end. With 6 to go he was in 6th, with 2 to go he was in 12th. Last spring, Bowman finished 2nd in Stage #1, led 8 laps and then finished 13th overall. In fall 2022, Bowman missed the race due to injury. In spring 2022, Bowman finished 9th in Stage #1, finished 5th in Stage #2, finished 9th overall and had a 14th place average running position. In 2021, nobody had a worse year than Bowman and he had a pair of 38th’s.
Todd Gilliland
Talladega Fantasy Spin – If you’re looking to pick Todd Gilliland anywhere, Talladega is the place. Gilliland has proven he has a knack here and the draft/attrition are great equalizers to make up for his equipment deficiency. Don’t be surprised if he sneaks in a top ten.
Talladega Track History – Todd Gilliland has been strong at Talladega and over the last three races, Gilliland has a 9.6 average finish and he’s 3 for 3 at finishing between 7th to 12th. Last fall en route to a 12th, Gilliland drove up to the front at the end to notch his good result. Last spring, Gilliland piloted the #36 and raced his way to a 10th place finish. To close out the race, Gilliland avoided trouble which helped him notch his top ten. With 6 to go until the scheduled distance before crashes broke out in mass, he was in 26th. At the start of the first overtime, Gilliland was in 19th. In fall 2022, Gilliland had an 11.4 average running position and then finished 7th. In spring 2022, Gilliland had a short race and crashed which led to his 27th. On lap 80 he was running in 20th, and then on lap 90 he was caught up in a “Restart Big One.”
