Talladega Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions / The Low Tier
Tyler Reddick
Talladega Fantasy Spin – At Talladega, trouble is typically brewing for Tyler Reddick and over the last five races, Reddick has a near series worst 27.6. average finish. At big superspeedways, Reddick has sort of a hero or zero attribute to him. He’s capable of sneaking in good results from time to time, but he’s historically much more likely to burn you. To kick off 2024 on this track type, Reddick kept his trend going by winning his Duel 150 and then finishing a buzz-kill 29th in the Daytona 500.
Talladega Track History – At Talladega, Tyler Reddick has a pair of 7th’s on his resume but in his other six races, he’s finished 16th or worse. Last year by his low standards, Reddick really didn’t have a bad year and had a pair of 16th’s. Last fall en route to his 16th, Reddick finished 10th in Stage #2 and had a 16.3 average running position. Last spring, Reddick finished 16th and had a 21.9 average running position. That’s a pretty good result when you consider he spun and hit pit road on lap 35 during the opening green flag pit cycle. Over the three races prior to that, Reddick had results of 27th, 39th and 39th.
Carson Hocevar
Talladega Fantasy Spin – At big superspeedways in Cup, Carson Hocevar is 2 for 2 at crashing and finishing in the 30’s, so hopefully his luck improves, and he dodges trouble for a change.
Talladega Track History – Last fall at Talladega, Carson Hocevar went to the “Brad Keselowski school of bump drafting” and became another victim, leading to his 35th. On lap 161 just before his demise in the #42, Hocevar was running in the mid 20’s. In the Truck series at Dega, Hocevar finished 11th last year but in his two starts prior to that he had results of 25th and 28th.
Josh Berry
Talladega Fantasy Spin – At Talladega, I can’t say I’m comfortable picking Josh Berry. In 7 of the 9 races this year he’s finished 20th or worse, and one of those bad results for him was a 25th at Daytona. I would just pencil him in as a +20’s driver and call it good.
Talladega Track History – On the Cup level, Josh Berry has never competed at Talladega. In the Xfinity series, Berry crashed last fall and finished 30th (9th in Stage #1, 4th in Stage #2) and then in his three starts prior to that he finished in the top 11 every race and had an 8.3 average finish.
