Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Charlotte 2023
Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski had a great car last year at Charlotte and was a top five contender but he finished an asterisk mark 19th. In the race, Keselowski finished 8th in Stage #1, finished 3rd in Stage #2 but then in Stage #3 things went downhill. On lap 219 while running in 5th, Keselowski had a loose wheel and made an unexpected pit stop. Later in that Stage when he was in the high 20’s off the lead lap, Todd Gilliland got into him and the #6 got into the wall, further dooming his evening. Over the first two segments which were incident free for him, Keselowski had speed rankings of 7th and 5th.
Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell had a hot rod last year at Charlotte and looked to be one of the best but he finished an asterisk mark 24th. In the race, Bell led 48 laps, finished 2nd in Stage #1 but then in Stage #2 while running in 5th, Bell got an unapproved adjustments penalty during the rain red flag. In Stage #3, Bell rebounded back up to 5th, but on lap 232 while running in that position he spun (didn’t hit anything). Bell rebounded yet again and was up to 11th on lap 369 but then a few laps later on lap 374, Larson spun out and Bell was then collected in the carnage.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson had a great car last year at Charlotte late and was a clear-cut top five contender but he finished an asterisk mark 30th. In the race, the #5 got stronger over the course of the afternoon but on lap 374 while running in 3rd, the #5 snapped loose and Larson crashed which doomed him to his poor result.
Ty Gibbs – Ty Gibbs looked strong last year at Charlotte and was a top ten performer but he finished an asterisk mark 26th. In the race, Gibbs finished 7th in Stage #2, finished 5th in Stage #3 but then late in the race on lap 374 while running around 8th, Gibbs was collected in a crash which led to his poor finish.
