Chicago Street Grant Park 165 Fantasy NASCAR Confidence Rankings / Post Practice Predictions
On Sunday, NASCAR will be returning to the streets of Chicago for the Grant Park 165. This street course is a 12-turn, 2.2-mile track laid out on the city streets of Chicago. This track is extremely narrow, surrounded by walls and has multiple 90-degree turns, so chaos is always looming.
On Saturday, practice was held for Chicago. Teams only had 20 minutes, and keep in mind teams have different agenda’s (some want to focus on long runs, some just want to feel out their car, some might focus on qualifying etc.). Chicago Full Field Fantasy Rankings
1) Kyle Larson
Start 1st / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Chicago Outlook – Polesitter, Kyle Larson should be high on your radar at Chicago. Larson was a standout performer last year and he just recently smoked the field at Sonoma. With the #5’s weekly level of performance, look for him to be a checkers or wreckers driver but if he avoids trouble, look for him to finish up front. In practice, Larson had the 2nd best 5-lap average in Group A.
Chicago Track Record Breakdown – Kyle Larson had a great car last year at Chicago and ranked among the best. In the race, Larson finished 4th, had a 6.7 average running position, ranked 2nd for Total Speed Rankings and then 5th for Speed Late In A Run. Larson ran well throughout and then when pit strategy shuffled him back to the low teens on lap 51, Larson made passes and drove up thru traffic to notch his 4th. On lap 44 before major pit strategy flipped much of the field, Larson was running in 2nd.

2) Tyler Reddick
Start 4th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Chicago Outlook – Tyler Reddick is a super-elite road course racer who should prominently be on your radar at Chicago. Reddick was stout last summer, and the #45 is always fast at road courses. Since 2023 at road courses, Reddick has the best Track Type Total Speed Ranking, the best Driver Rating, the best average running position and his average finish minus misleading results at Sonoma 2023 and last year’s Chicago race is 5.3. This year at road courses between the two visited, Reddick has the best Total Speed Ranking and a 6.5 average finish.
Chicago Track Record Breakdown – Tyler Reddick was a standout performer last year at Chicago but finished an asterisk mark 28th. In the race, Reddick started 2nd, led 8 laps, finished 2nd in Stage #1, finished 3rd in Stage #2 but then on lap 57 while running in 4th, Reddick got into a tire barrier and got stuck which doomed his afternoon. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Reddick ranked 4th but take note his speed over the segments were 1st, 3rd, 2nd and then 24th.
DraftKings $9,800/ FanDuel $13,000
3) Shane Van Gisbergen
Start 5th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Chicago Outlook – At Chicago, defending race winner, Shane Van Gisbergen will be a top five contender who’ll be a factor to win. Since 2023 at road courses, Gisbergen has the 3rd best Track Type Total Speed Ranking but take note he’s only competed in 3 races. In them, SVG of course won here, finished 10th at Indy RC 2023 and was likely a top ten contender at COTA this spring but got a speeding penalty and had gear box issues.
Chicago Track Record Breakdown – Last year at Chicago, Shane Van Gisbergen was a standout performer and came up clutch, racing his way to victory lane having to make passes late. The win was certainly not given to him and he had to race hard and earn it. In the race, SVG started 3rd, had the best average running position (4.9), earned the best Driver Rating and led 11 laps. In terms of speed analytics, SVG ranked #1 for Total Speed Rankings and #1 for Green Flag Speed. On lap 16 during the telecast it was mentioned that SVG, Reddick and Bell were running lap times that were 2-seconds faster than the rest of the field.
