Group A NASCAR Driver Practice Notes
William Byron – William Byron unloaded fast and had really good speed. About 5-minutes into practice while he was 1st overall and had the best 5-lap average he said, “Feels really good so far.” After logging 8-laps he said he’s a little tight on exit but otherwise really good. William Byron said he was happy with his car during an interview. Byron ended Group A with the best 5-lap average.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a power steering issue. He said his steering felt sticky. Busch had a very different setup then last year at Pocono. Kyle Bush was one of just two drivers in Group A who didn’t do a 5-lap run.
Denny Hamlin – Hamlin focused on doing a long run and had good speed over it. Hamlin should have a good feel for his car. Hamlin had the best 15 and 20-lap average in Group A.
Ryan Blaney – Jeff Burton liked Ryan Blaney’s speed, and the pace of other Penske cars in Group A. Ryan Blaney said he liked his car during an interview. Blaney had the 4th best 5-lap average in Group A.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson ended Group A practice 3rd overall. Right at the end of Group A practice, Larson spun but he didn’t hit anything.
