Indianapolis Brickyard 400 NASCAR Practice Notes
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin had a great car in practice and was viewed to be one of the best. The #11 team was said to have put “Phoenix preparation” (Championship finale) into the weekend. In practice, Hamlin had the 2nd best 5-lap average and the 3rd best 10-lap average.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson’s main focus was to get “comfortable” this session. They expected the track to change a ton over the course of practice. To close out practice, Larson did a long run (+15 laps) that jumped him up to 2nd on the speed chart in terms of 10-lap averages. Only him and Elliott did a 15-lap run, and Larson ranked #1.
Tyler Reddick – Midway thru practice after putting on new tires, Tyler Reddick jumped up to #1 overall. Tyler Reddick was a speed standout to Jeff Burton. With about 10-minutes to go, Tyler Reddick jumped up to #1 in terms of 10-lap averages. Tyler Reddick ended practice #1 overall. Overall, Reddick ranked #1 for 5 and 10 lap averages.
Brad Keselowski – Midway thru practice Keselowski said, “The car drives like a pretty good Indy car.” Keselowski had the 4th best 5-lap average and the 5th best 10-lap average.
William Byron – Five minutes into practice while he was 4th overall, Byron said “tight finishing throttle.” Midway thru practice while he was 8th, Byron was happy with the progress his team was making with his handling. Byron had the 6th best 5-lap average.
