Charlotte Roval Full Field Fantasy Rankings
1) William Byron
Start 10th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – William Byron will have a fast #24 and be tough to beat at the Charlotte Roval. Byron finished runner-up last year and since Watkins Glen 2023 minus Sonoma 2024 and Watkins Glen 2024, Byron has 2-wins and a 3.0. average finish. Byron’s already locked into the next round, so he won’t be points racing on Sunday and will go all out. In practice #2 among Group B drivers, Byron had the best 5 and 10-lap average.
Charlotte Roval Track Record Breakdown – William Byron has been elite at the Charlotte Roval and in 4 of the last 5 races, he’s been a top 6 contender. Over the last five races, Byron has the best Driver Rating, the best average running position and the 3rd best average finish (8.2). Last year, Byron was fast and finished runner-up. In the race, Byron had a 7.6 average running position, earned the 5th best Driver Rating and had the 5th best Total Speed Ranking. Over the final segment when the trophy was on the line, Byron had the 2nd fastest car on the track. In 2022, Byron was points racing and finished 16th, so don’t read into that afternoon too much. In 2021, Byron looked great, but finished an asterisk mark 11th. In the race, Byron had the best Total Speed Ranking, led the most laps (30), had the best average running position (5.2) and earned the best driver rating. The final Stage was unfortunately anything but incident free for Byron. On lap 90 while battling for 2nd he missed the chicane which dropped him back to about 11th (had to stop on the track) and then on lap 107 after he battled back up to 3rd, Byron lost control of the #24 and spun into the grass which led to his 11th. In the two Roval races prior to that, Byron had back-to-back 6th place finishes.

2) Chase Elliott
Start 7th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – 7-time road course winner, Chase Elliott will be tough to beat at the Charlotte Roval. Elliott’s been a standout performer having won here twice but over the last five, he’s been a factor every race and probably could’ve won them all despite what you’ll see in the results column. At the Roval over the six races among drivers who competed in all of them, Elliott has the best average finish (8.2) and the best Driver Rating. In the Next Gen, Elliott has the 3rd best Speed Ranking. In practice, Elliott had good long run speed and in practice #1 among Group A drivers, Elliott had the best 10-lap average. In practice #2 for his Group, Elliott had the best 5-lap average.
Charlotte Roval Track Record Breakdown – Chase Elliott has been the premier performer at the Charlotte Roval and over the combined races minus 2022 where he was the leader before late wildness and got spun, Elliott has 2-wins and a 5.8 average finish. Last year, the #9 was one of the best but Elliott finished 9th. In the race, Elliott started 8th, finished 7th in Stage #1, won Stage #2, led 15 laps but then while leading late in Stage #2, Elliott was burned by a caution at a bad time which had him winning the Stage, but it also dropped him back to 26th to begin the final Stage since he wasn’t able to pit before it ended. If that didn’t happen, Elliott might’ve just been able to win. In terms of speed stats, Elliott ranked 2nd for Green Flag Speed, 2nd for Speed Late In A Run and then had the 5th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2022, Elliott was the class of the field but finished 20th. In the race, Elliott led 30 laps but while leading late and having the race all but won, late cautions broke out which eventually led to Elliott getting spun out and finishing 20th. In the race, Elliott had the 3rd best driver rating, the 3rd best average running position (5.3), ranked 2nd for Speed Late In A Run and had the 4th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2021, Elliott had a great car but finished an asterisk mark 12th. In the race, Elliott won Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, led 2 laps but then on lap 55 while he was in the process of working his way up thru the field because of pit strategy, Harvick wrecked him. Over the three races prior to that, Elliott had results of 1st, 1st and 6th.

3) Kyle Larson
Start 6th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium-High
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – Look for Kyle Larson, the 2021 Charlotte Roval winner to be a factor. Larson’s run great here and there’s no doubt Hendrick will be bringing their A-game and come with a highly tuned #5 machine. This year at road courses, Larson won at Sonoma in convincing fashion, has the 11th best Track Type Total Speed Ranking and a 10.3 average finish minus Chicago. In practice, Larson was strong. In practice #2 for his Group, Larson ranked 2nd for both 5 and 10-lap averages.
Charlotte Roval Track Record Breakdown – Kyle Larson has been strong at the Roval and “Performance Wise”, Larson’s been good enough to win in 2 of his 5 starts (2021 and 2018). That said in terms of the results column, he’s only finished in the top ten once. Last year, Larson started 36th but raced his way to a 13th. Starting in the back greatly increased his level of difficulty but he had a fast car. In addition to finishing 13th, Larson had the 13th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2022, Larson didn’t have an incident free race and finished 35th. I think Larson was kind of in “just ride mode” to close out the round, but on lap 98 while running in 13th, Larson knocked out his toe of the #5 and eliminated himself from the Playoffs. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Larson ranked 11th. In 2021, Larson pulled off a miracle and raced his way to victory lane, despite having major electrical issues which caused him to drive up thru the field in the final Stage. In the race, Larson led 8 laps and had the 3rd best Total Speed Ranking. Over the final quarter of the race, the #5 was the fastest car on the track. In the two races prior to that, Larson had results of 13th and 25th (Led 47 laps, subjectively the best, wrecked late while running in the top five).
