Homestead Straight Talk Wireless 400 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions / The Low Tier
Josh Berry
Homestead Fantasy Outlook – Josh Berry has boosted upside at high-wear intermediates, so he might have one of his better 2024 afternoons at Homestead. Berry has been a magnet for problems, but Homestead isn’t a super chaotic track so he might be able to dodge trouble for a change. At Darlington a fellow high-tire wear intermediate, Berry has a 7.5 average Speed Ranking for the year, finished 3rd in the spring and looked like a top five contender in the fall before crashing.
Homestead Track History – Josh Berry has never competed at Homestead on the Cup level. Last year in the Xfinity series, Berry had problems and finished 32nd. In his two starts prior to that, Berry had a pair of 11th place finishes.
Ryan Preece
Homestead Fantasy Outlook – Ryan Preece could sneak in a good finish at Homestead, and he already did last year en route to a 13th. The #41 team has been running better lately and at Darlington this season which I view to be the best comp track due to the high-tire wear nature, Preece has results of 12th (summer) and 17th (spring), which are great finishes for him this season. Heading into the weekend, I would view Preece as a mid to high-teens driver who might have marginal upside.
Homestead Track History – Ryan Preece has finished better in each new race at Homestead, and he had a solid showing last year so let’s hope that trend doesn’t’ end. Last year in the #41, Preece started 29th, had the 27th best Speed Ranking, had a 19.7 average running position but then finished 13th. Over the final Stage, he was legit solid to close out and moved up in the running order. Over his three starts prior to that in JTG equipment, Preece had finishes of 21st (2021), 24th (2020) and 25th (2019).
Chase Briscoe
Homestead Fantasy Outlook – Chase Briscoe might have some dark horse potential. At Darlington the most recent high-wear track visited, Briscoe was in contention all night long and then came up clutch at the end, racing his way to victory lane. Briscoe’s Homestead track record doesn’t indicate that will be the case but I wouldn’t overlook him this weekend.
Homestead Track History – At Homestead, Chase Briscoe has been a high-teens performer “Performance Wise” over all three of his starts. In terms of Next Gen Speed Rankings over the last two, Briscoe ranks 16th. Last year, Briscoe finished 17th, had a 20.5 average running position and ranked 15th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. In 2022, Briscoe crashed on lap 160 while running 20th and that led to his 36th. In the race, I would say he typically looked about high-teens good prior to his demise and his Total Speed Ranking ranked 21st. In 2021, Briscoe had a pretty mediocre performance and finished 18th. In the race, Briscoe had a 25.6 average running position and the 27th best Total Speed Ranking.
