Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Martinsville (Spring 2024)
Denny Hamlin – This spring at Martinsville, Denny Hamlin was one of the best and was poised to finish in 4th, but he ended up finishing an asterisk mark 11th. On lap 397, John H Nemechek spun out bringing out a late caution and then Denny Hamlin pitted which was absolutely the wrong decision, leading to his misleading result. In the race, Hamlin finished 7th in Stage #1, won Stage #2, led 66 laps, had a 4.4 average running position and ranked 4th in terms of Total Speed Rankings.

Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell did not look good this spring but he wasn’t 35th place bad. Bell looked like a 20’s performer, but his race wasn’t incident free. In the race, Bell started 20th, finished about 23rd in Stage #1 and then in Stage #2 on lap 110 while running in 21st, Bell had a flat tire / broken tire rod which brought out a caution for debris which dropped him many laps down. Later, Bell had another spin, but his competitive afternoon was already over at that point.
Josh Berry – Josh Berry looked sporty this spring at Martinsville, until he wasn’t, and he finished 25th which you can get out an asterisk mark for. In the race, Berry, finished 9th in Stage #1, finished 10th in Stage # 2 and had the 13th best Total Speed Ranking. Over the course of the race, the #4 team just didn’t seem to keep up with adjustments or something because they got slower over the course of the afternoon. Over the segments, Berry had Speed Rankings of 11th, 12th, 16th and then 17th. I’ll also note, Berry’s race wasn’t incident free. On lap 310 during green flag pit stops while running around 18th, Berry had an uncontrolled tire and had to serve a pass thru penalty.
John H Nemechek – This spring, John H Nemechek nearly ruined the Hendrick anniversary party and on lap 397 with three to go while running in 31st, Nemechek had a flat tire and got into the wall which brought out a late caution, leading to his 36th. Additionally, Nemechek had a 30.6 average running position and ranked 30th in terms of Total Speed Rankings.
