Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Phoenix (#1 2024)
William Byron – Championship contender, William Byron finished 18th this spring at Phoenix but you can get out an asterisk mark for that result. In the race, Byron finished 6th in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2, was in 4th on lap 209 but then following that, Hamlin spun which flipped the field, dropping Byron back and he just couldn’t rebound. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Byron ranked 8th.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin was a standout performer this spring at Phoenix but he finished a misleading 11th. In the race, Hamlin won the pole, finished 3rd in Stage #1, finished 3rd in Stage #2, had a 6.0 average running position and was tied for leading the most laps (68). In the last Stage while battling for the lead, Hamlin spun out which led to his misleading finish. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Hamlin ranked 4th.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano looked to be a mid 20’s performer this spring at Phoenix but he ended up finishing an even worse 34th. In the race, Logano started 23rd, finished in the mid 20’s in Stage #1, finished about 31st in Stage #2 and then in the final Stage while running in the mid 20’s, he was wrecked. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Logano ranked 25th.
Erik Jones – It sounds crazy now, but Erik Jones was a legit top ten contender this spring at Phoenix. In the race, Jones started 4th, finished 4th in Stage #1 but then during the Stage #1 caution he had a slow pit stop that dropped him outside the top ten. When Stage #2 ended, Jones finished about 13th. Then in the last Stage on lap 221 while running in 8th, Jones got into the wall after contact which had him rapidly dropping in the running order and then making an unexpected pit stop which doomed him to a 31st.
