Kyle Larson who started in 4th jumped to an early lead on lap 1 and led the first opening 34 laps. In turn 3, he ducked below Reddick and Hamlin to get the lead.

On lap 35 while Larson and Hamlin were battling side by side for the lead, Bubba Wallace blew by both of them and got the lead.

Big: On lap 38, Denny Hamlin who was in 2nd spun into the grass.

On lap 76, John H Nemechek was mentioned to be way off pace. He was back in 35th and lapped. He had some toe link damage after getting into the wall.

On lap 79 during the telecast it was mentioned that tires appeared to matter this weekend.

Notable: While running in 17th around lap 81, Austin Cindric did a slide job gone wrong and slid into the wall. This quickly dropped him back to 24th.

On lap 86, Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick were shown to be on pit road. This was the start of  green flag pit stops in Stage #2. This was an extended green flag pit cycle.

Big: While running around 20th on lap 108, Todd Gilliland had a flat tire that was smoking and came to pit road.  On the very same lap, Logano had the same issue. Logano was running in 14th just prior to his problem. On that lap also, AJ Allmendinger had the exact same issue. Later that lap, the caution came out for debris. Allmendinger was stopped on the track.

Mixed pit strategy took place during the mass tire failure caution with Chastain, Busch, Gibbs, Keselowski, Dillon and Ware not pitting. This had them as the top 6 late in the Stage.

Big: On lap 116 on the restart lap, Kyle Larson who was back in traffic spun and a multi-car accident ensued. Others collected were Wallace, Buescher, Bell, Briscoe, Logano and Gilliland. Larson just got loose.
