Group 1 NASCAR Driver Practice Notes
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin’s engine blew up essentially at the start of practice. He’ll be starting in the back on Sunday. Hamlin didn’t get a single lap of practice.
William Byron – William Byron had the best overall speed in Group 1. Byron had good speed over a run and his 5-lap average was the 2nd best in Group 1. Late in practice, Byron got into a wall hard. He’ll be starting in the rear of the field on Sunday and he didn’t post a qualifying lap. Prior to getting into the wall, Byron told his team they need to work on turns 2 and 7.
Shane van Gisbergen – SVG shot to the top of the leaderboard shortly after group 1 restarted following the Hamlin caution. SVG was shown to have missed a turn late in practice. In Group 1, SVG had the best 5 and 10-lap averages.
Ross Chastain – Ross Chastain had really good speed. This weekend, all three Trackhouse cars have the same setup. In Group 1, Chastain had the 6th best 5-lap average.
Chase Briscoe – Chase Briscoe was shown to have missed a turn early in Group 1 practice. Briscoe never made a 5-lap run. Briscoe said his car got better throughout practice.
