Daytona 500 NASCAR Practice #1 Notes

NOTE: Today’s practice session was largely all about qualifying for tonight (short single car runs), but some limited drafting did ensue which led to misleading speeds.

Chase Briscoe – About halfway thru practice, Chase Briscoe was mentioned to have perhaps the fastest non-draft assisted lap. He was 22nd at the time. He ended practice 13th but that fast lap was likely draft assisted.

Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell opted not to practice. The #71 team trusts their superspeedway qualifying process. McDowell won the pole last fall at Talladega.

Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski practiced today after getting cleared on Monday. His team has made some cockpit comfort adjustments for him. David Ragan is a standby driver for him this weekend. Keselowski is using a cane to get around in the garage area.

Legacy Motorsports – Erik Jones, John Nemechek and Jimmie Johnson all logged 10-laps consecutively. They were the only drivers who did so.

Austin Cindric – Austin Cindric had the fastest lap in practice. I would heavily theorize it was draft assisted though.
