Michigan Pre-Race Notes

The race was only 138 laps long after being shortened due to rain.

JJ Yeley started in the rear of the field after an engine change.

Kurt Busch drove a backup car after getting into the wall before qualifying on Friday.

There was a competition caution on lap 40

Carl Edwards qualified 4th and coming of turns 2 and 4 he passed cars and went on to lead the first lap.

On lap 2 in turn 2 Kasey Kahne passed Carl Edwards for the lead.

On lap 3 in turn 4 Carl Edwards dipped below Kasey Kahne and retook the lead.

Running order on lap 8: 19,5,4,24,21,78,20,2,18,88 … 48,3,22,42,11,33,41,14,55

On lap 12 the caution came out for rain.

During the first rain caution notables who pitted were Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray and Paul Menard

On lap 29 the race resumed under a green flag.

On lap 35 Kyle Larson went high on the track which broke his momentum and dropped him back a few positions.

On lap 39 Kurt Busch said his car is good but not great.

Running order on lap 40 during the competition caution: 19,78,5,24,4,88,2,18,3,20 … 41,21,42,22,33,14,11,48,15,1 … 31,9,6,13,47,40,27

During the lap 40 competition caution nearly everyone took 2 tires.

During the competition caution Jimmie Johnson had a very slow pit stop as his team repaired damage from a restart.

On lap 51 the race resumed under green following the competition caution and some additional rain.

Big Moment: On lap 52 Kyle Busch got into the wall hard and then immediately went to the garage area. He was battling Kurt Busch for 5th at the time. Following the wreck Busch said he had rain on his windshield.
