Daytona Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Ryan Newman – Ryan Newman has had some recent success at Daytona. In 5 of the last 8 races he’s finished in the top 11. In this years Daytona 500 Newman started deep in the field, ran towards the back for much of the race but when the checkered flag waved he finished 11th. Last July he also ran near the back for a large portion of the race but when it was time to go he charged up towards the front. When the checkered flag waved he finished 8th. In the 2015 Daytona 500 he utilized his typical strategy of running near the back for the early portion of the race to protect his car. Unfortunately accidents are always looming here and Newman’s race went downhill after Keselowski’s engine blew up with 40 laps to go. McMurray got into Keselowski’s oil and the wall and then Newman ran into the back of him. At the time of that incident Newman was running in the mid-teens. That issue caused him to finish in 38th. In 2014 Newman finished in the twenties twice. In the three races prior to that he had results of 5th, 5th and 10th. One attribute I like about Newman heading into Daytona is his momentum. Over the last six races he’s scored the 7th most points and has a 10.7 average finish. (Yahoo B Driver)

Carl Edwards – Daytona has not been kind to Carl Edwards. Heading into this years Daytona 500 Edwards had 6 straight results of 17th or worse. In this years Daytona 500 he bucked that trend. Its shocking that he did because his race wasn’t incident free. He spun twice, and the second one did some serious looking damage to his right front that dropped him down a lap. He eventually got back on the lead lap and raced his way to a 5th place finish. Last summer at Daytona he had an eventful race. His first issue came on lap 53 when he got loose and got some damage after hitting the inside wall. His next issue came when he was involved in a “Big One” on lap 87. When the checkered flag waved he finished 41st. Performance wise before he had problems he showed potential. Last year Carl Edwards ran well in the Daytona 500. He was on pace to finish right around 11th until he was caught up in last lap carnage (Finished 23rd). Performance wise in the race he was strong. He was able to drive near the front whenever he wanted and he even overcame a pit stop penalty just before the midpoint when he was running in the top five. In summer 2014 he was caught up in the “Big One.” In the 2014 Daytona 500 Edwards performed better than where he finished. With 3 laps to go under yellow he was running in 5th but on the last lap coming to the checkered flag he was caught up in the carnage and as a result finished 17th. (Yahoo B Driver)
