Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Daytona
Regan Smith – Given his tier Regan Smith isn’t a bad option at Daytona. On this track type he has a knack for running well and positioning himself up front when it matters. In his last three Daytona races his average finish is 10.3. In this years Daytona 500 he spun early but recovered to finish 8th. In last year’s Daytona 500 Smith drove the #14 and finished 16th. His next most recent Daytona race was the 2013 500 and in that event he finished 7th.

Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott should have a strong showing at Daytona and he opens up the door for potential qualifying points. This year he’s 2 for 2 in terms of winning poles at plate tracks. In this years Daytona 500 he ran well during the opening laps but spun early and totaled his car. Prior to wrecking he showed potential. I think he’ll be better prepared for this race and Hendrick Motorsports will be prepared with a vengeance. At Talladega this spring he ran well. He started on the pole, led 27 laps and finished 5th.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney is a decent plate racer. He generally stays in line and doesn’t make mistakes. He’s also a smart driver who’ll only get better on this track type. At Talladega this spring he finished 9th. He also has one other Talladega top ten to his name. At Daytona Blaney has two Sprint Cup starts under his belt. In this years Daytona 500 he finished 19th but he ran better than his result. In the race he started 7th, earned the 10th best driver rating and had a 13th place average running position. His other Daytona race was in the 2015 Great American Race. Late in that race with 25 laps to go he was running in 13th but his engine blew up.
Landon Cassill – Landon Cassill is a decent plate racer and comes home with good finishes from time to time. His best finish this season was an 11th at Talladega which is the other plate track on the schedule. In 2014 on this track type he scored the 7th most points in the series. In this years Daytona 500 he wasn’t a factor and finished 23rd. In July 2015 he evaded the carnage and finished 13th. In last year’s Daytona 500 nobody had a shorter race then him. He completed just 18 laps and was sidelined with an early engine failure.
David Ragan – If you plan on picking David Ragan you really have to do it at a plate track. He doesn’t have fantasy value on any other track type. At Daytona he went to victory lane in summer of 2011 but since then he doesn’t have a single top ten, and just one top fifteen. In this years Daytona 500 he didn’t run well. He started 29th and finished 29th. In 2015 when he drove better equipment he had more success finishing 12th and 17th. In summer 2014 he finished 22nd.
Brian Scott – Brian Scott doesn’t have a great fantasy value, but then again where does he? That said if you have to pick him it might not be a bad idea to select him here. At Daytona he has three starts under his belt. In this years Daytona 500 he finished 24th. His other two Daytona finishes are results of 25th and 42nd.
Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher has one Sprint Cup start under his belt at Daytona. This year he had a tough race and finished 39th after getting involved in an accident. At no point in the race did he run well. At Talladega this spring he also wrecked and finished 37th.
