Watkins Glen NASCAR Happy Hour Practice Notes

Jeff Gordon – Struggling. Made a lot of changes. Very tight. Focused on long runs. Before he made a run in qualifying trim late he had to abandon it because he said something didn’t feel right.

AJ Allmendinger – Had loose oil line that gave his team a scare. Didn’t seem that happy with his car. Jumped to the top of the speed chart late in qualifying trim. Said he’s in the ball game now. Didn’t feel that comfortable with his car though.

Martin Truex Jr. – Had a very good car. Ended the session with a long run in race trim.

Kurt Busch – 20 minutes into practice he said, “It feels like the left to right balance is about as good as we’re going to get.” He was in race trim at that time. About 30 minutes into the session he went to qualifying trim. Said the tires felt like they were lasting forever. Pleased with his car in race trim.

Denny Hamlin – Pretty happy with his car. Feels like he can contend. Felt he was better in race trim than qualifying trim.
