Top 10 Short Track Fantasy NASCAR Options For 2017
10. Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson doesn’t have the body of work, but he has the potential to be considered a top ten driver at short tracks in 2017. At all three venues he’s capable of coming home with a good result. At Bristol he’s had top five potential in quite a few of the recent races but trouble has struck in the last three. In his first three Bristol starts he had a 9.6 average finish. At Richmond he has an 11.3 average finish and last fall he was very strong and came home with a runner-up result. His track record at Martinsville isn’t anything to brag about but perhaps he’s starting to click there, last year he had his two best results (3rd and 14th).

9. Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had his best year at short tracks in 2016 and scored the 5th most points over the combined events. Last year he was a serious threat to win at two of the three tracks. Richmond is arguably his best short track. In 5 of the last 7 races he’s finished in the top ten. Last year he swept the top ten. In fall 2016 he led nearly half the race (193 laps) and finished 3rd. At Martinsville he’s finished in the top ten in 3 of the last 4 races. Last fall he led 147 laps and finished 7th. I really like him at Bristol but it’s been a rough track for him recently because he hasn’t had a top ten since 2012. Last year he had top five potential in both races but neither was incident free. Last August he wrecked while running in 3rd. In the spring race he pitted from 2nd under green with 75 laps to go.

In the six seasons prior to 2016 on this track type he accumulated between the 5th to 9th most points every season. His best short track is Martinsville. He’s a recent winner there and in 3 of his last 5 races he’s finished in the top four. At Richmond he’s proven himself to be a solid competitor. Since 2013 his 10.6 average finish ranks as the 5th best. In all of those races he finished between 5th and 14th. At Bristol he’s run well in many of the recent races. Last year he finished 2nd. In summer 2015 he finished 9th.
