Top 10 Road Course Fantasy NASCAR Options For 2017
10. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – People don’t think of Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a road course fantasy option, but the fact is that he’s pretty good on this track type. Over his last five road course races he has an 8.6 average finish and hasn’t had a result below 11th. Last year on this track type he only participated at Sonoma. He had a successful afternoon and came home with an 11th place finish. Over the last four Sonoma races his 8.3 average finish ranks as the 3rd best in the series. At Watkins Glen he currently has back to back 11th place results. One notable strength that should be noted about him on this track type is that his cars have been fast over long runs.

9. Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski is a good fantasy option on this track type, at least at one track in particular. Last year on this track type he scored the 6th most points, since 2011 his point’s accumulation rank has only once been outside of 3rd to 11th. Between the two road courses he’s much better at Watkins Glen. At that venue he’s one of the best default fantasy options you can make. Since 2011 minus 2014 when he had problems he has a 3.2 average finish. Last year he finished 3rd. At Sonoma you might want to avoid him because in the last four seasons he’s finished between 15th and 22nd. I’m hoping he’ll start to show improvement there because his teammate Joey Logano now has back to back top fives. Last year Keselowski finished 15th.

8. AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger is a skilled road course racer but I will note I think he’s overrated on this track type. Part of that can be attributed to his equipment which has failed him on a steady basis. Sonoma has been a chink in his armor. A typical good result for him there is a result between 7th and 14th. Last year he finished 14th. Over longs runs at that venue his car drops off. At Watkins Glen he’s been a much better performer. He won there in 2014 and his only finish lower than 13th can be attributed to a parts failure. His overall Watkins Glen average finish is 9.4. Portions of this content are hidden.
