Indianapolis Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Indianapolis has been a tough track for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and in 3 of the last 4 races he’s finished 34th or worse. Last year, Stenhouse Jr. had a tough and finished 34th after having a handful of problems. He was caught speeding during the second competition caution around lap 30 and then his race met a swift conclusion when he had an engine failure. I will note he did show potential and logged a good amount of laps in the top ten. On lap 115 which was about 15 laps before his demise he was running in 9th. In 2017, Stenhouse Jr. finished 35th after crashing on lap 107 while running in 15th. That marked the end of his race dooming him to his poor result. Based on how he ran I think there’s a good chance he was legitimately mid-teens good if he would’ve had an incident free race. In 2016 at Indy he had his best race and crossed the finish line in 12th. It’s important to note there was mass carnage at the end and he dodged the attrition. Prior to all the carnage over the last 10 laps he was running around 18th. His average running position for the afternoon was 20th. At Pocono a few weeks ago, Stenhouse Jr. finished 21st.
Daniel Hemric – If you’re looking for a dark horse pick, consider Daniel Hemric. Pocono is the most similar track visited and he had a great season there. He finished 7th in July and in June he finished 13th. On Sunday, I’m going to be optimistic and view him as a mid to high-teens driver. In NASCAR’s top series, Hemric has never raced at Indy. Last year in the lower series at Indy he finished 5th.
Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell has been a respectable performer at Indy, given his tier. Over the last three Indy races he has a 19.3 average finish, a 23.3 average running position and he’s finished between 17th to 23rd every race. Last year at Indy, McDowell had his best performance at “The Brickyard” and he finished 17th. Additionally, he earned the 20th best driver rating and had a 22nd place average running position. In the two Indy races prior to that he had results of 18th and 23rd. At Pocono this year, McDowell had results of 20th and 25th.
