The Low Tier – Richmond
David Ragan – At Richmond, I don’t have high hopes for David Ragan. Realistically, I think its smart to view him as a mid-twenties driver and then hope for the best. Over the last five combined races at Richmond he has a 26.0 average finish and a 24.2 average running position. Earlier this year at Richmond, Ragan finished 28th and had a 26th place average running position. Last fall he didn’t have a good race. He finished 23rd, had a 24th place average running position and earned the 25th best driver rating. Last spring he had a solid showing, but when you look at this 33rd place finish you would never know it. In the race he had a 20th place average running position and earned the 23rd best driver rating. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. With 11 laps to go while he was in 15th he spun into the wall. In 4 of the 6 Richmond races prior to that he finished between 17th to 23rd.
Corey LaJoie – At Richmond, Corey LaJoie has a 29.8 average finish and if you pick him on Saturday night a mid to high-twenties finish is likely in the cards. This spring at Richmond, LaJoie had his best RR race. When the checkered flag waved he finished 26th and had a 28th place average running position. Last fall at Richmond when he made his lone start for the season he finished 32nd. In 2017 he had results of 29th and 32nd. This year at the other shorter-flat tracks visited he has results of 23rd (New Hampshire) and 26th (Phoenix).
Ross Chastain – At Richmond, look for Ross Chastian to finish around 30th. He has three starts under his belt at “The Action Track” and his combined average finish is 30.3. Earlier this year at Richmond, he finished 30th, earned the 30th best driver rating and had a 32nd place average running position. Last year, Chastain had results of 33rd and 28th. This year over the three combined races at shorter-flat tracks, Chastain has a 27.3 average finish.
Landon Cassill – If you feel like playing with fire, pick Landon Cassill because its almost a 100% chance you’ll get burned. In 5 of the last 6 Richmond races he’s finished 34th or worse. Earlier this year he had some sort of major issue (didn’t crash but went to the garage) which led to him finishing 78 laps down in 35th. Last year, Cassill had results of 34th and 36th. At the other two shorter-flat tracks visited this year he has results of 33rd (Phoenix) and 26th (New Hampshire).
