2009 Stats: Points finish 20th, Wins 1, Top fives 3, Top tens 7, Average finish 19.9, Average position 22.2, Laps led 36, Driver rating 67.8
In 2010 the rookie strip will be off Joey Logano’s #20 Home Depot car and he must start fulfilling his potential. He performed admirably in 2009 for a young driver who was rushed into the Cup series. He failed miserably living up to his nick name “Sliced Bread”. He was the youngest driver to ever win a race and he’s only 19 so I won’t hold it against him heading into 2010 and neither should you.
Strengths- With such a small body of work it’s really hard to tell what’s Joey Logano’s strength. In my opinion you’ll find that his strength will unquestionably lie on the intermediate tracks.
Weaknesses- Joey is the typical young driver and you’ll find that he’ll struggle at tracks like Bristol, Richmond, and the flat tracks.
Intermediate Track Grade- B, In my opinion Joey’s best cup outing to date was at Darlington which is a difficult track. Joey also had many other good intermediate track outings in 2009
Flat Track Grade- C, Joey won at New Hampshire but if you watched that race you would know Joey was pretty lucky the rain didn’t come 2 minutes later. Joey failed to back his New Hampshire win on the second visit to the track and finished mid pack. Joey was decent at Indy but other than that “Sliced Bread” wasn’t the best thing on these tracks.
Restrictor Plate Track Grade- B, The Daytona 500 was tough on Joey Logano but other than that Joey did a pretty good job avoiding the “big one” at these tracks. Joey swept the top 10 at Talladega and finished 19th in the summer Daytona race.
Short Track Grade- C+, Joey just like many other young drivers really struggled at these tracks the first time he visited them. In his second outing at these tracks it was semi apparent he was improving on them.
Road Course Track Grade- B-, Joey finished in the teens at both Infineon and Watkins Glen in his rookie year. Look for Joey to improve even more on these tracks in 2010.
How to use Joey Logano from a fantasy racing perspective in 2010?
Really focus on using Joey Logano on intermediate track in 2010. He’ll improve at skill tracks this next season, but make sure he’s a good pick ahead of time before you choose him.
