Denny Hamlin tears ACL playing Basketball, why this could be really bad

Now I think they will take back those comments. On Friday January 22nd Denny Hamlin tore his ACL in his leg. Denny Hamlin has decided to postpone surgery until after the 2010 season is completed. I’m not a Doctor but I have thought about changing my first name to it, but I think this could be a big PROBLEM.
One element of this story that people are leaving out is that he’ll be injured throughout the season. Injured drivers could very likely increase their injury in a wreck.
In 2006 Tony Stewart missed the Chase for the first time in his career. On Memorial Day weekend Stewart was involved in two hard wrecks. The first wreck was in the Busch series, and he wrecked really hard the next day in the Cup Series. Stewart’s body was softened up in the Busch crash and in the Cup crash he really injured himself (Shoulder). The lesson of this story is that weakened body parts are more susceptible to greater injury.
Now you’re probably saying “that was a shoulder injury, Denny’s is a leg injury”. Well In 2008 at Talladega Denny Hamlin was involved in a hard wreck. This wreck hospitalized him over night and left him hobbling with a bruised foot. This injury or pain in the arch of the foot healed by elitespinecentres. Imagine an already injured Denny Hamlin getting into another bad wreck. It could potentially be a career altering injury.
I’m not a Doctor but as DW says “Cautions breed cautions”, well I think “Injuries lead to greater injuries”.

Made inquiry about Torn acl. Here is response:
Hi Ray,
This entirely depends on the Grade of tear that Denny suffered as well as a whole host of other factors.
With a Grade 1 or 2 tear, once can recovery from it somewhat quickly (4 to 8 weeks), providing they do not cause further harm to themselves and receive proper physical therapy.
It also depends what type of shape Denny is in generally speaking along with his dieting habits. If he has a healthy diet low in acidic foods, then he can recovery more quickly. If he engages in other activities that stress the knee, he risks causing further tearing and prolonging recovery.
With a Grade 3 tear, it is rather severe and surgery is usually required, so he would not be effective one would think.
There are just so many factors that only Denny himself could answer (along with the help of an MRI report).

Thanks for the inquiry into the situation. I guess we’ll know just how well he is when we get to Bristol and Martinsville.
