New 2011 NASCAR Rules Explained
How To Make The Chase: Drivers can make the Chase by being in the top 10 in points after Richmond or by being a “Wild Card” driver. A “Wild Card” driver is someone who accumulates the most wins but isn’t in the top ten in points but is in the top twenty in points.
How The Points Work: As you know NASCAR is going to a 43-1 scoring system in 2010 across all three major divisions. The winner of the race will receive 3 bonus points for the win. Drivers will also score 1 point for leading a lap and 1 point for leading the most laps. So the winner of the race will actually be guaranteed 47 points.
How Qualifying Will Work: The qualifying order will be based on practice speeds. Gone are the days of the lottery for qualifying order. Some races such as Indy it will actually be to a drivers advantage to practice slowly (hope my fantasy drivers catch on to this). The slowest cars will qualify first followed by the fastest.
Inclement Weather Qualifying: If qualifying is canceled due to inclement weather then starting positions will be determined by practice speeds.

Man I thought the fuel can adjustment/learning curve was gonna cause a stir. This point system will cause a ton of scenarios and story lines this season. Can’t wait.

Can’t figure out why there is zero points for the top 2 pole positions and why only 3 points for winning. The only possible answer is NASCAR’s love for consistency.
I did some math. Last year, 1st got 4.5 times vs 43rd . This year, about 47 times more
Woe to DNF’s and risk takers who fail. Consistency is rewarded big time. That is NASCAR in a nutschell ray miller This would make a fine topic for writers. Ray Miller fantgameplaya
