Bristol Irwin Tools Night Race: Fantasy NASCAR “Front Runner” Rankings

Ryan Newman – Early in his career Bristol was a tough track for Ryan Newman. Now Thunder Valley is a pretty good venue for him. In the last eight races on the old track surface when it was single grooved Newman had five top tens. His three finishes not in the top ten can be attributed to wrecks. Starting up front will be more important than ever now that the track will be lacking the upper groove. Newman is a historically good qualifier at Bristol. Kevin Harvick – The progressively banked surface never fit Harvick’s driving style but with it becoming a “man’s race” again I like his chances more. On the old version of Thunder Valley Harvick was never afraid to rough some one up a little. On Saturday night Harvick will not hesitate to give someone the bump and run. I would consider him an expert at that craft. On the old track configuration Harvick had a win and 11 top 11′s in 14 races. I would pencil Harvick in for a 6th through 13th place finish. (Yahoo! Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson has finished in the top ten in six of the last seven races at Bristol. He would be 7 for 7 but Juan Pablo Montoya took him out in the 2010 night race. I don’t think the track changes will have a big impact on Johnson because he’s a bottom feeder around tracks. In the Irwin Tools Night Race that will be the only way around the track. Another factor that needs to be noted is that the #48 is the best team in NASCAR and when things change they adapt quickly. (Yahoo! A Driver)
