Drivers to avoid in the Richmond Federated Auto Parts 400
Regan Smith – Richmond hasn’t been a good track for Smith. In eight races he’s only finished in the top twenty twice. Both of his top twenties came in last season’s races (17th in spring, 18th in fall). His 25.1 average finish isn’t skewed. In 7 of his 8 races he’s finished between 17th and 27th. One troubling fact about him here is that he’s only finished on the lead lap three times. This team has improved since the crew chief change but I still have him penciled in for a 17th to 25th place finish. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Aric Almirola – In April Almirola made his first start at Richmond. He started in 11th, had an average running position of 19th and finished 26th. During the last little short run of the race he fell from about 19th to his eventual finish position. Richmond is a skill track so don’t be surprised if he gets one of his better finishes of the season in the Federated Auto Parts 400. Phoenix is the most similar track on the circuit and at that venue earlier this year he finished 12th. (Yahoo! C Driver)

Bobby Labonte – When you look at Bobby Labonte’s recent Richmond results compared to how he performs at other tracks he’s not looking to bad (Bobby Labonte wise). His last two Richmond finishes were 17th (this spring) and 20th (last September). That sure beats the 31.6 average finish he had in the five prior races at RIR. One more glimmer of hope for Labonte in the Federated Auto Parts 400 is his 16th place finish at Phoenix in February. (Yahoo! C Driver)
Paul Menard – Among drivers who I rank on a week to week basis Menard has the worst average finish at Richmond (27.5). I’m sure everybody remembers what happened to him last September. He spun out in the closing laps which brought out a caution which helped Harvick win the race. You really can’t blame him for spinning out because he ran so poorly anyways (Yahoo! Race Chart). This spring Menard had his best finish. He overcame his 31st place starting position and crossed the finish line in 13th. His 13th was his first top twenty finish at RIR since his first race in 2007. David Ragan – Last year in his old Roush Fenway ride he finished 4th in both Richmond races. In 2007 he had his best Richmond finish and crossed the finish line in 3rd. Other than these three races his other results are pretty bad. In his other races his best finish is 17th and his average finish is 25.5. Also in the other races he’s only ran 11.2% of the laps in the top fifteen. This spring he finished 32nd and had a 33rd place average running position. (Yahoo! C Driver)
