Chicagoland Geico 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks

Brad Keselowski – Last year at Chicagoland Keselowski started in 6th and finished 5th. I wouldn’t say he was 5th place good though. His average running position was 11th and benefited when the competition ran out of gas. I like Keselowski in the Geico 400 based off his recent performances at 1.5 mile tracks. He won at Kentucky and at Atlanta he finished 3rd. Kansas is Chicagoland’s sister track and last year Keselowski wheeled the #2 to victory lane because of his fuel management skills. This race has become a fuel mileage race on more than one occasion and right now there’s no one I trust more than him in these races. (Yahoo! A Driver)
Jimmie Johnson – Last season at Chicagoland Jimmie Johnson was one of the drivers who ran out of gas on the final lap. While the #48 was still on fumes in the closing laps he was running in third. On the final lap he ran out of gas and crossed the finish line in 10th. Johnson had one of the best cars last season. He had the third best driver (113.7), led the third most laps (39), and was tied for having the second best average running position (5th). His PROS Rankings was the third best. Although he’s never won at this venue he’s consistently been one of the drivers to beat. In 10 races at Chicagoland he has 5 top fives and 8 top tens. Johnson has also led laps in nine of his Chicago races. I think there’s no question Jimmie Johnson will be a very popular pick this week. One thing that should be noted about Johnson is that NASCAR changed some rules for Chicago and it might have an impact on his performance.(Yahoo! A Driver)

Kevin Harvick – Chicagoland is a Kevin Harvick track. For whatever reason he’s always been good at this venue. He won the first two races held at this venue and since then he’s earned five more top ten finishes. Last season Kevin Harvick finished 2nd and had the 7th best driver rating (98.7). He was a driver who was able to stand on the gas in the closing laps while his competitors had to nurse their throttle. Harvick has been one of the best drivers on 1.5 mile tracks this season. His 8.3 average finish ranks the fifth best and only him and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have finished in the top fifteen every race. (Yahoo! A Driver)
