Chicagoland Geico 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Front Runner” Rankings
Kasey Kahne – Last year at Chicagoland Kasey Kahne finished 12th, but he wasn’t that good. Up until about 5 laps to go he ran 99% percent of the race outside the top 18. Proof of that is his Yahoo! Race Chart and his 25th place average running position. His next three most recent Chicago finishes are 6th, 3rd and 15th. Kahne has been good on similar tracks this season. On 1.5 mile intermediate tracks he has a 10th place average finish and four top tens. At Kansas (sister track) in April Kahne started in 9th and finished 8th. What I don’t like about Kahne is his Chase history. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Tony Stewart – Chicagoland is Tony Stewart’s best intermediate track. He’s the defending champion and he has two other Chicago wins. Tony Stewart has been remarkably consistent here. In eleven races he’s only finished outside the top ten twice. In the last five Chicagoland races Stewart has two wins and a 4.0 average finish. Despite what he’s done here in the past Tony Stewart is a risky pick. Intermediate tracks in the 1.5 mile mold have been his achilles heel this season. Excluding his win at Las Vegas he only has 1 top fifteen and a 23.2 average finish at the other 1.5 mile venues. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Carl Edwards – Carl Edwards benefited from the fuel mileage situation in last years race. With 10 laps to go he was running in 9th but on the final lap he crossed the finish line in 4th. In 2010 he finished 2nd at this venue. Now that Carl is officially out of the Chase I think this team can start to get back on track performance wise again. While this team was on the hot seat they couldn’t do anything right. Edwards should be a solid performer in the Geico 400. When you take away his Atlanta engine failure his average finish on 1.5 mile tracks this season is 10.2. I think his likely finish range is 6th to 12th. (Yahoo! A Driver)
