Homestead-Miami Ford EcoBoost 400: Fantasy NASCAR “Top Tier Elite” Picks

Matt Kenseth – This will be Matt Kenseth’s final race in the #17 Roush-Fenway Ford. In future Homestead races I think he’ll miss this car because he’s been so successful here. In five of the last seven races here he’s finished in the top ten. Last year at Homestead he finished 4th and had a 6th place average running position. In 2007 he led 214 laps and walked away with the trophy. What I like about Kenseth is that he has momentum at 1.5 mile tracks. In the last two races at these venues he’s finished 1st and 4th. This season at 1.5 mile tracks he has a 10th place average finish. I predict Matt Kenseth will win the Homestead Ford EcoBoost and end the Roush Fenway chapter of his career on a positive note. Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson will be going all out in the Ford EcoBoost 400. He certainly won’t be points racing in this race. Last year at Homestead he had a good car but had carburetor problems. On lap #105 he was racing for 5th when this problem occurred. Later on in the event he spun. In 2010 at Homestead Jimmie Johnson finished 2nd clinching his 5th championship. After that race Johnson said that he thought his car was quick enough to go up to the front and win if needed. It should be noted though that Hendrick Motorsports has never won here. In the years Jimmie Johnson won the championship his average finish is 7.6. Jimmie Johnson has been the driver to beat at 1.5 mile tracks this season. In the ten races at these venues he has 1 win, 6 top fives (most in series) and 8 top tens. His 7.3 average finish on these venues ranks as the best in the series. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Denny Hamlin – Homestead has been a favorable venue for Hamlin. He’s a former winner and since he’s been a full-time driver his average finish is 7.2. Last year at Homestead he had a an OK car. He started in 10th, had an 11th place average running position and finished 9th. In 2010 he had a good car at Homestead but was burned by a late caution when Kevin Harvick spun Kyle Busch. In 2009 he started in 38th but overcame this disadvantage and led 71 laps en route to a victory. Denny Hamlin has been one of the best drivers at 1.5 mile tracks this season. His Texas performance worries me some but I think he’ll end the season on a strong note. (Yahoo! A Driver)
