Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500 Post Practice Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Johnson could easily be 2 for 2 this season after Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500. This race will be won by a smart team who can adjust their car and for that reason I can’t argue with anyone who picks him. All indications point towards Johnson having a good race. He feels good about his car and in practice #2 he had the fastest 10 lap average. In Happy Hour he had the 5th best 10 lap average. Starting near the front will be important in this race and he’ll be starting on the inside of row #2. Phoenix has has been a good track for Johnson. I believe he had the best car last spring and in the fall race he ranked #9 in my PROS Rankings.

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch has been fast all weekend long. In Happy Hour he had the best 10 lap average. His 10 lap average was nearly half a MPH better than Gordon who had the second best. One word of warning about him is that it seems like whenever his car is this good problems find him. One constant looming problem is his engine program. He blew up last week and today his teammate Denny Hamlin blew up. Last fall at Phoenix Kyle Busch was dominant. He led 237 laps, earned an impressive 143.8 driver rating, and finished 3rd. If it wasn’t for a late caution in that race then he would be the most recent winner.
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne has been short flat track master recently. After Denny Hamlin he belongs in the conversation of who’s the next best on this sub track type. In practice Kahne was relatively happy. He said his car wasn’t far off. In Happy Hour Kahne was quick. He had the 4th fastest 10 lap average. In the Subway Fresh Fit 500 I think Kahne has strong fantasy potential. He won the inaugural race on the new surface and last fall he finished 4th. On Sunday Kahne will start on the front row alongside Mark Martin.
