Darlington Southern 500 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions

Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. was an intermediate track ace last season but his worst finish of the year on this track type came at Darlington. Last May there was nothing special about Junior’s performance. He simply wasn’t competitive. He started in 24th and finished 17th. In the race he had an 18th place average running position and also earned he 18th best driver rating. In his next three most recent Darlington races he’s recorded finishes of 14th, 18th and 27th. From a fantasy NASCAR perspective this certainly isn’t the week to pick Junior. In eighteen Darlington races he’s only finished in the top five three races. (Yahoo! B Driver)

Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick’s track record at Darlington isn’t exactly something that would inspire confidence. He has an 18.8 average finish and a 17.6 average start. Since 2004 he has zero top fives and has only finished in the top ten once. Last year in this race Harvick was slightly better than mediocre. He finished 16th but he ran better than that in the race. His average running position was 13th and in the last phase of the race he fell back from about 7th to his eventual finish position. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Aric Almirola – Last season Aric Almirola made his lone start at Darlington. He started in 13th and finished 19th. In the race he had a 21st place average running position, the 23rd best driver rating and he only ran in the top fifteen in 5.2% percent of the laps completed. What I like about Aric Almirola is his momentum (external link to FRCS). In the last four races he has four top ten finishes. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get #5  in the Bojangles Southern 500 because he’s improved so much as a driver in the last year. (Yahoo! B Driver)
