Party In The Poconos 400 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Last August at Pocono Jimmie Johnson had the best car in the field so don’t be fooled by his 14th place finish. During the final restart he was in the lead but he had contact with Kenseth and they took each other out. Shortly after that the rain fell and he never had an opportunity to improve his position. In the rain shortened event he led 44 laps and had a 5th place average running position. In the race he started in 10th and drove up to the lead in only 39 laps. Last June he arguably had the fastest car. He started back in 24th and by lap #40 he cracked the top 5. Then during the first round of pit stops he was one of the drivers who got a pit road speeding penalty. That put him in a significant hole but he was still able to finish 4th. The “Tricky Triangle” hasn’t been tricky for Johnson. He has a 9.0 average finish and since August 2007 he has 6 top fives and a 6.8 average finish. Pocono is a big flat track and his track type strength ranking is a unanimous #1. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin has the Party At The Poconos 400 circled on his calendar. Pocono has historically been one of his best tracks. He has four wins here and a 10.7 average finish. Last August Hamlin didn’t have an incident free race. He qualified 2nd, led 3 laps but finished 29th. What happened is that he got collected up in the last restart melee while he was running in 15th. In June he started in 5th, finished 5th and led 21 laps. At Pocono Hamlin has two notable strengths. One of them is that he’s a qualifying ace. In the last 8 Pocono races he has a worst qualifying result of 7th and a 4.75 average starting position. Another notable strength of his is leading laps. He’s led laps in the last seven Pocono races for an average of 51.8 per race. Look for Denny Hamlin to be a very popular expert pick at Pocono. (Yahoo! A Driver)

Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth was good in both races at Pocono last season. In August during the final restart he was in second but collided with Jimmie Johnson and wrecked. In the race he had the 4th best driver rating and a 5th place average running position. In June his car was extremely fast. He started back in 14th and drove up to the lead by lap 90. When he was in front of the pack he paced the field for 11 laps. In that race he finished 7th, had a 7th place average running position and earned the 3rd best driver rating. Now that he’s in a Joe Gibbs race car I expect big things from him. Don’t forget Joey Logano won here last June and as an organization they’ve been consistently strong. Look for Matt Kenseth to be tough to beat in the Party At The Poconos 400. (Yahoo! A Driver)
