27 23 Fire could be seen underneath Paul Menard’s No. 27 Chevrolet as his engine blew up, bringing out the first caution flag of the day. He was running third at the time. Menard finished 43rd.
11 25 Denny Hamlin, boxed in by the No. 51 of AJ Allmendinger, took an extra-long, four-tire pit stop during the yellow flag (most teams took two tires), dropping from 14th to 39th for the restart.
22 69 Something in Joey Logano’s car broke, shooting his car up the track and into the wall in Turn 1, bringing out caution flag #2. He went to the garage. After repairs, he came back out but only regained one spot, finishing 40th.
39 72 Ryan Newman was penalized for a runaway tire during his pit stop (tail end of the field).
99 72 Carl Edwards accidentally ran over the foot of his front-tire changer, Colin Pasi, leaving his pit stall. He dropped to 38th for the restart.
11,42,56 98 Caution flag #3 flew as Martin Truex Jr. spun and got into Denny Hamlin, collecting Juan Pablo Montoya as well, as the cars spun in the tri-oval near the pit entrance. Kyle Busch clipped Hamlin on his way by, causing damage to the front end of his No. 18 Toyota. Montoya went to the garage before coming back out and finishing 39th.
56 98 Martin Truex Jr. OUT (41st)
18 103 Kyle Busch was penalized for having too many men over the wall during a pit stop to repair the front end of his car. The tail end of the field penalty was of limited consequence, however, because he would have started in the back anyway.
X 127 Running mid-pack in Turn 4 and into the tri-oval, David Stremme and Marcos Ambrose made contact, sending Stremme hard into the wall, and resulting in caution flag #4. AJ Allmendinger, Greg Biffle, Michael Waltrip and Aric Almirola also suffered damage.

X 149 “The Big One” finally made an appearance, in, where else, the tri-oval, with 11 to go, bringing out the fifth caution flag of the night. Denny Hamlin spun before sweeping up a couple cars and subsequently hitting the outside wall. Dave Blaney, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, AJ Allmendinger, and David Reuitmann were all involved in the chaos.

X 161 More cars wrecked as the field crossed the finish line. Danica Patrick was clipped, collecting Kyle Busch, JJ Yeley, David Gilliland, Jeff Burton, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Casey Mears, Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman and Terry Labonte.
