Phoenix AdvoCare 500 Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson is a good fantasy pick to win the Phoenix AdvoCare 500. In March his car was very strong. He started 3rd, finished 2nd, earned the 2nd best driver rating and had a 5th place average running position. The strength of his car in March was long runs because it got better over the course of a run. In November 2012 his championship chances went down the drain here. In that event the 48 team was slightly off their game. He started in 24th and in the last third of the event while running in 7th he had a flat tire and got into the wall. In the March 2012 at Phoenix Johnson arguably had the best car in the field. He could roll through the center of the turns better than anyone and when he was leading he drove away from the competition. If Johnson didn’t have lug nut stud problems in the race I think a win would’ve been a near certainty because that issue caused him to make multiple pit stops to correct the problem. When the checkered flag waved he finished 4th. Also in that race he started 4th, led 55 laps and earned the 3rd best driver rating. (Yahoo A Driver)

Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer is an elite performer on shorter flat tracks like Phoenix. In terms of his overall talent on this track type he would rank right near the front of the class. Earlier this year at Phoenix he had a good car. He finished 6th but he could’ve potentially been better than that. At one point in the race his team made a timely pit stop that dropped him deep in the field. Last fall he had top 5 potential but after he got Jeff Gordon mad he was taken out kamikaze style. In the 2012 spring race which was early in his tenure at MWR he had a long day and had multiple tire issues. In the first race on the new surface at Phoenix he finished 10th. Richmond is the most similar track on the schedule and he was good in both races at that venue this year. He finished 2nd in the spring and in fall he was leading until a late caution trapped him back in the running order. (Yahoo A Driver)
