Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney will be making his Sprint Cup debut this weekend in the Kansas 5-Hour Energy 400. His only other scheduled start this season is in October at Talladega. This weekend if everything goes well for Blaney I could easily see him coming home with a teens finish. Penske has had the strongest cars on the track this season and I’m sure the #12 team will be giving their full effort and it’s not a glorified test session. Penske Racing also has a history of having young drivers perform well here early in their career. Keselowski won here in his first start in Penske equipment and Newman finished 2nd in a pre-rookie start.

Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon has underperformed this season. More importantly he’s been mediocre in the races that correlate to success for the Kansas 5-Hour Energy 400. At Texas he started in 20th, finished 21st, had a 23rd place average running position and earned the 23rd best driver rating. At no point in that race did he look competitive. At Las Vegas he performed slightly better. In that race he started in 4th, had a 12th place average running position and finished 16th. In a Sprint Cup car Austin Dillon has one start under his belt. In 2011 he started in 26th and finished 26th. In 2013 in the Nationwide Series he won the pole and finished 6th. In 2012 he started in 2nd and finished 2nd. One reason for optimism in him at Kansas is his equipment. Kevin Harvick won here last fall and Paul Menard has finished in the top ten in all three races on the new surface.

Danica Patrick – Last falls race at Kansas wasn’t easy for Danica Patrick. On lap #1 she spun and got fatal damage to her car. When the checkered flag waved she completed 0 laps and finished 43rd. Her driver rating was 29.3. I would imagine that could be an all-time record low and if it’s not I don’t know what is. Her other recent Kansas performances haven’t been any better. For whatever reason in those events she’s felt the need to retailate against drivers who make her mad. In fall 2012 in her retaliation she took herself out and finished 32nd. In spring 2013 he started in 25th and finished 25th.
