Bristol IRWIN Tools Night Race Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Tony Stewart – (UPDATE: Tony Stewart is not racing at Bristol in the IRWIN Tools Night Race. He’ll be replaced by Jeff Burton). Will Tony Stewart race in the Bristol IRWIN Tools Night Race? Fantasy racers need to approach the weekend thinking he will because after all his name is on the entry list. Bristol has not been a good track for Tony Stewart recently. He finished well this spring but in his six races prior he had a best result of 14th and a 24.3 average finish. This spring he finished 4th but there really wasn’t anything special about his performance. He was a “survivor” who avoided the carnage. If he didn’t use pit strategy he likely would’ve finished in the teens. In March Stewart started in 37th, had a 16th place average running position and earned the 15th best driver rating. In August 2013 he missed the race due to injury. In spring 2013 he found trouble quite early in the race. He started in 8th but on lap #9 he had a flat left rear. In August 2012 in the first race on the new surface he had a “yo-yo” race. He was terrible at the start and got lapped early but he rebounded around the mid-point. On lap #331 he was racing side by side with Matt Kenseth for the lead. It was hard racing and neither one of them gave an inch. That was a serious problem that didn’t work out well for either driver because they both had to go to the garage for repairs. At Bristol Tony Stewart has one career win and has finished in the top ten 30% percent of the time. In over half his starts he’s finished outside the top fifteen. (Yahoo B Driver)

AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger has a spotty track record at Bristol because he hasn’t run very many consecutive races in recent years. The last time he ran consecutive races was in August 2011 and March 2012. From a career perspective this really hasn’t been a great track for him. He has a 25.7 average result and has only finished on the lead lap in 4 of his 12 races. This spring he didn’t have a good finish but he performed better than his 25th place result. What happened is that while he was running in the low double digits (~13) he came in for a pit stop but an untimely caution during the pit cycle pinned him 3 laps down after he just completed his service. In some of his other recent Bristol races he’s performed well. In spring 2013 when he drove the #51 car he finished 13th, had a 19th place average running position and earned the 19th best driver rating. His next most recent Bristol race was in spring 2012. In that race he qualified 2nd, led 54 laps and finished 17th. In August 2011 he had his best result and finished 12th. Last August in this car Bobby Labonte performed well and finished 14th. At one point in that race he was running near the top five but got spun. This season on short tracks Allmendinger has scored the 9th most points. (Yahoo B Driver)
