Watkins Glen Cheez-It 355 Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Kasey Kahne – Watkins Glen is the lone Sprint Cup track that Kasey Kahne has never finished in the top ten. That doesn’t mean he’s been bad though. In his 11 races he’s finished between 12th and 17th 63.6% percent of the time. In 2014 Kahne had a solid afternoon. He started in 30th, had a 16th place average running position and finished 12th. In 2013 he had his worst result and finished 34th. He was having a good race but it went downhill when Matt Kenseth got into him with 9 laps to go. At the time of the incident he was on pace to have his best race and was running in 10th. In 2012 he had a solid afternoon. He finished 13th and earned the 16th best driver rating. He could’ve potentially finished a lot worse. In the race he got a pit road penalty during the first round of stops and with 28 laps to go he spun. At Sonoma earlier this season he finished 8th. Over the last three road course races Kahne has an 8th place average finish. One attribute I don’t like about him is his 29th place average finish over the last five races. (Yahoo B Driver)

Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin was a good road course racer at the start of his career but things have really been bad for him in recent years. In his first four Watkins Glen races he finished in the top ten every race and had a 7.5 average finish. Over the last five Watkins Glen races he has a 30.0 average finish. Last year Hamlin was on pace to have an OK race but it unraveled late. With 4 laps to go while he was running in 13th he spun into the sand barrels at the entrance of pit road and damaged his car. In the race he finished 24th, had a 16th place average running position and earned the 17th best driver rating. In 2013 he had his best result over his recent bad stretch. He started in 20th, earned the 20th best driver rating, had a 22nd place average running position and finished 19th. In 2012 he had a trying weekend. In practice he slipped in oil and Jeff Burton ran into the back of him hard which forced him to pull out a backup car. In the race his fortunes didn’t change because about two-thirds through the event he had a blown engine (finished 34th). His next two most recent Watkins Glen finishes are 36th and 37th. At Sonoma earlier this season he finished 18th. (Yahoo A Driver)

Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon has been consistent at road courses. On this track type he has 3 starts and in every event he’s finished in either 16th or 17th. Last year at Watkins Glen he made his lone Sprint Cup start. In the race he started in 31st, had a 21st place average running position and finished 16th. Performance wise his result is reflective of his performance because over the final 40 laps he typically ran within a few deviations of that position. At Sonoma earlier this season Dillon started deep in the field and crossed the finish line in 17th. In 2014 he also finished 17th at that venue. (Yahoo B Driver)
