Top 10 Shorter Flat Track Fantasy NASCAR Options For 2017
10. Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson is a strong performer at shorter flat tracks. Among active drivers on this sub-track type he has the 6th best average finish at New Hampshire (13.3), the 8th best average finish at Phoenix (13.2), and the 4th best average finish at Richmond (11.3). Last year at shorter flat tracks he had a pretty solid season scoring the 7th most points and having a 9.8 average finish. In the second trip to each venue last year he performed at a higher level than he did in the first event. In the combined second events he swept the top ten and had a 5.0 average finish. Look for Kyle Larson to have a strong season at shorter flat tracks in 2017.

9. Martin Truex Jr. – Last year at shorter flat tracks Martin Truex Jr. was one of the stronger drivers, “performance wise.” He was in serious contention to win at two of the three venues. Richmond is his best shorter flat track. In 5 of the last 7 races there he’s finished in the top ten, last year he swept the top ten. In fall 2016 he had a great car. He led nearly half the race (193 laps) and crossed the finish line in 3rd. Last spring he finished 9th. At New Hampshire he was very competitive in both races but his results don’t reflect it. Last fall he led 141 laps and finished 7th. In summer 2015 he led 123 laps and was the driver to beat until he had transmission issues which relegated him to a 16th place finish. In 6 of the last 7 races there he’s finished between 7th and 12th. At Phoenix he’s been a respectable performer. In 4 of the last 5 races he’s finished between 7th and 14th. Last fall he started in the rear of the field and had top ten potential until he got penalized which later led to him getting wrecked. In the two Phoenix races prior to that he finished 14th.

8. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a very capable performer at all three shorter flat tracks. His best shorter flat track is Phoenix. In 6 of his last 7 races there he’s finished in the top ten. Last fall he missed the race but Alex Bowman was very strong in the #88 earning the best driver rating, leading 194 laps and finishing 6th. In spring 2016 when he last raced there he finished 5th and led 34 laps. In fall 2015 he raced his way to victory lane. At New Hampshire he missed both races last year. In fall 2015, his most recent race, he was running in 11th but ran out of gas with two laps to go. In the four New Hampshire races prior to that he finished between 5th and 10th. At Richmond last spring he finished 13th. Since 2013 his 10.6 average finish ranks as the 5th best.
