Phoenix (ISM Raceway) Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Paul Menard – Shorter flat tracks haven’t been a strength for Paul Menard. If you pick him I think you should be happy to see him walk away with a high-teens to low-twenties finish. Maybe if things really go his way he might finish in the mid-teens, but I wouldn’t expect that. Last year in his incident free races on this track type he finished between 17th to 24th. At Phoenix over the last four races he’s finished 15th or worse. Last fall he was really bad. He finished 29th and had a 33rd place average running position. In the race he started in the rear of the field and never ran well. By lap 89 he was three laps down. When the race reached its conclusion he was 9 laps down. I think its clear he likely had some sort of nagging issue. In spring 2018, Menard didn’t have a good race and on lap 191 while he was running in 24th he backed his car into the wall. That marked the end of his race and led to his 36th place finish. In fall 2017, Menard had an OK performance. He finished 15th and had an 18th place average running position. In spring 2017 Menard was a low-twenties driver. He finished 21st, had a 20th place average running position and earned the 23rd best driver rating.

Ryan Preece – I wouldn’t overlook Ryan Preece at Phoenix. He’s had some strong runs this season and Phoenix might be in his wheel house. Preece is best known for his modified racing success and this is the closest track visited yet to that discipline of racing. In 2015 at Phoenix, Preece raced in the fall and finished 37th. I wouldn’t read into that result at all for fantasy purposes. Last fall at Phoenix in the Xfinity Series he finished 5th.
Daniel Hemric – Daniel Hemric might have some dark horse potential at Phoenix if you’re willing to roll the dice. Realistically though I would look for him to be a high-teens to low-twenties driver. He’s in equipment that’s capable of performing well, but he’s never made a Cup start here. Last year in the Xfinity Series at Phoenix he had results of 6th and 2nd. In 2017 he finished 7th and 5th.
