Daytona 500 Race Notes
William Byron who won the pole selected the low-line. He led the opening 2 laps.
On lap 3, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. took the lead and led the next 4 laps. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. really liked his car. He said it was the best Daytona 500 car he’s had.
On lap 7, Matt DiBenedetto took the lead. He led the next 15 laps.

On lap 17, green flag pit stops started. Fords as a collective were the first cars to come to pit road.

Big Moment: On lap 21, Corey LaJoie had a shredded tire and this brought out the first caution. It was in the middle of the opening pit cycle. It played into the hands of the drivers who pitted already (mostly all Ford drivers).
Michael McDowell got pit penalty under yellow during the LaJoie caution which dropped him to the back of the field.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. got the lead following the LaJoie caution. He then led the next 12 laps.

Big Moment: On lap 50, Kurt Busch spun and Bubba Wallace drove into into the back of him. Bubba Wallace had a lot of damage. Kurt Busch’s damage was a lot less. Kurt Busch was running around 10th at the time, and Bubba Wallace was just outside the top ten.

Notable Moment: With 44 laps to go while coming down pit road Austin Dillon got some damage after contact on pit road.
Big Moment: With 42 laps to go coming to pit road a multi-car accident ensued. Drivers involved were Jimmie Johnson, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Tyler Reddick, Cody Ware and BJ McLeod. Johnson had a lot of damage. Stenhouse Jr. only had minimal damage.
- Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Newman were caught speeding on pit road during the caution for the pit road accident.
- William Byron who was leading before the caution had a long pit stop that dropped him back to the high-teens.

Big Moment: With 20 laps to go Kyle Larson crashed. He was running in 18th at the time. He didn’t have contact with anyone. He got a fair amount of damage from this.
