Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Indianapolis
Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. appeared to have a great car at Indianapolis last year, but he finished an asterisk mark 40th. In the race he started in the rear of the field (inspection infraction) and during pace laps he radioed his team and said that his brakes felt “squishy.” Despite his problem he had no trouble advancing in the running order. On lap 37 he was up to 13th. Unfortunately, on lap 41 he had a massive brake failure when his brake rotors exploded and that marked the end of his race. If his race would’ve been incident free, there’s a a good chance he was a top five contender.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano finished 13th last year at Indy, but I don’t know how much you can read into that result. During Stage #1 his team had a slow pit stop because they changed a shock (broken?). That’s certainly not a normal adjustment and because of that I wouldn’t read into his race too much. In the five Indy races prior to last year Logano finished in the top 8.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a very interesting race at Indy last year and had multiple problems. While he was leading in Stage #2 scuffing his tires he had contact with the grass which made his steering tougher. At the end of Stage #2 he was penalized for pitting too late, and then in the final Stage he made an unexpected pit stop a little earlier then his team would’ve liked. Despite all of those problem he was still able to finish 8th. If his race would’ve been incident free, I think he probably would’ve been a factor to win.
